Chinese Meatball Recipe (Traditional Chinese Cooking Recipe)

Welcome to Xiao’s Kitchen. My name is Xiao Wei, ever since my Mother taught me how to cook at an early age, I have always had a strong passion for Cooking. My family still live in Inner Mongolia in the northern part of China, where I visit each year and pick-up new Asian/Chinese recipes.

My mother once told me this dish brings me good luck, so she wasn’t wrong there! now I’d like to share it with you.


250g mince (pork or beef)
1 egg
4 spring onions
6 slices ginger
3 cloves garlic
2 tablespoon soy sauce
Half teaspoon ground red pepper
1 tablespoon oil
1-pint cooking oil for deep frying
1 and a half tablespoon of corn flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon vinegar

For making the meatballs, I’ll need to:
Finely chop 2 of the spring onions
Finely chop 3 slices of the ginger
Place mince in a mixing bowl
Add the chopped spring onion and ginger to the bowl
Add 1 tablespoon soy sauce…ground red pepper…oil…corn flour
Add salt to your taste
Break the egg into the bowl
Mixing clockwise till mixed well

Take 1 tablespoon of the mixture into your hand
Work it till forms a ball
Place on a dish for deep frying
Continue with this till all mixture are used

Heat 1 pint of oil in a pan
Drop the meatballs one at a time into the hot oil
Fry until golden
Remove from oil and drain

Roughly cut the other 2 spring onions
Slice the garlic
Place deep-fried meatballs in a pan
Add the spring onion, garlic and the remaining ginger
Add 800ml water and bring it to the boil
Add vinegar, sugar, the remaining soy sauce and salt to your taste
Reduce heat to low, simmer for half an hour
Remove the meatballs on to a dish
Thicken the liquid with cornflour mixed with little water
Pour sauce over meatballs, garnish and serve
