This soooo reminds me of my childhood – Stuffed Peppers! My
Dad was a master gardener and we always had fresh vegetables
on hand. Everyone has there own version but……. I think this is
the best. You can adjust the seasonings to your liking. The flavors
are bold and satisfying. Enjoy.
How to Make Italian Stuffed Peppers Recipe ~ THE BEST!
6 nice size bell peppers – any color
2- 2 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1 1/2 cups cooked white rice
1 – 28oz can crushed tomatoes
1 – 28oz can tomato sauce
1 – 28oz can tomato puree
1 large finely diced onion
1-2 cloves minced garlic
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp italian seasonings
1 tbsp oregano
1 tbsp basil
1 tbsp marjoram
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp marjoram
1 tbsp Worsterchire sauce
3 tbsp ketchup
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Saute diced onion, minced garlic and dash
salt and pepper for 5 minutes until tender.
Remove from heat and cool.
Prep peppers by cutting around tops and
removing stem and seeds. Take spoon and
scrape along veins on inside peppers to
remove. Rinse with water to clean.
Cut excess pepper around top, dice and
put in sauce for extra flavor.
SAUCE: Add seasonings, extra diced peppers
and extra sauteed onions and mix well.
STUFFING: In bowl mix hamburger, cooked rice,
seasonings and mix well until combined.
Stuff peppers with hamburger mixture dividing
evenly. If any left over stuffing you can
add an egg, mix well, form into meatballs and
add to your sauce.
Place peppers in a deep pan or roaster and
pour over sauce coating well.
Bake for 1-2 hours depending on the amount
and size of your peppers. When the peppers
are fork tender they are done.
Serving with a side of white rice and fresh
green salad. Maybe some garlic bread and
a glass of wine!
